Your brain is divided into two sides or hemispheres which are slightly different from each other. Although there is always individual variation of brain functions, typically the left hemisphere is responsible for rational, logical thought and likes to process sequentially, looking at each thing in turn. Whereas the right hemisphere is associated with more creative and intuitive thought and prefers to process ideas in a simultaneous way looking at the whole thing at once.
In the 1970s and early ’80s, a series of research studies on the nature and patterns of brainwaves showed when you measure the brain waves generated by both sides of your brain; you will find that most people’s brainwaves are out-of-phase with each other during normal waking consciousness. However the research also showed that typically very successful people, regardless of their areas of expertise; businessmen, musicians, artists, sportsmen, martial arts experts, advanced meditators, and spiritual teachers, all had brainwaves which were in phase and synchronised with each other. In other words, both hemispheres of their brains were working in harmony with each other, resulting in one synchronized brain wave pattern in phase for both parts of the brain.
In most of us there is often a battle between head and heart, between our gut feelings and our reasoned, rational course of action. This means that for most decision and problems we come across we will end up favouring one of these sides and as a result only use at best half our brainpower and I’m sure you can think of plenty of occasions when the uncertainty or indecision has stopped you from making any progress at all. Perhaps it shouldn’t seem surprising that these people were highly successful if they literally were not only using twice as much of their brains as the rest of us to come up with solutions, but also having both parts work together in a co-ordinated way.
Now back when this research was first carried out, there was very little you could do about the state of your brainwaves, if you were lucky enough to develop a highly synchronised brain you could look forward to greater success in your life and if not well that’s just the way things were, the expression ‘Life’s just not fair’ springs to mind.
Fortunately over the last 30 years the technology of brainwave entrainment has advanced significantly and can let you level the playing field. Studies have shown that regular use of binaural beat brainwave entrainment soundtracks causes the brain wave patterns of either hemisphere to come together and become ‘in sync’ with one another. The process of bringing the brain waves of both sides of your brain together is called Brainwave Synchronization.
The research showed that during moments of deep thought or creativity, the participants brain waves would slow down and both sides of their brains, ordinarily out of phase, would start working together in a balanced, synchronized manner. Whilst at first this only happened when actively listening to the brainwave entrainment soundtracks, with repeated regular use their brains began to get used to this more effective way of operating and they could use this ability on demand.
