Binaural Beats And Their Use In Brainwave Synchronization

Brain synchronization also referred to as brainwave synchronization stimulates brain frequencies that activate a periodic stimulus. This stimulus alerts brain wave frequencies that will in turn synchronize with the brain. This can happen when you begin to feel sleepy as it activates the “falling asleep” process. This can also apply to people who feel unhappy or upset, or just don’t feel like their own. Once hearing special frequencies that someone can hear perhaps with music, the frequencies help brainwave synchronization. This can also be often used by people who enjoy meditation.









Brainwave synchronization is basically another term for brainwave entrainment. It works by presenting the right binaural frequencies to the brain in order to achieve the desired altered state of consciousness. There are a few different types of brainwave synchronization that can be hugely beneficial to many people.


Brain synchronization, which is sometimes called brainwave entrainment, is the tendency of the brain to naturally change it brainwave (EEG) frequency to match the frequency of the dominant external stimuli. Lower brain frequencies, specifically the Theta and Delta states, which are commonly associated with meditation, deep relaxation, and REM sleep. When the brain is in these two relaxed states, it eliminates stress hormones such as cortisol and causes the production of beneficial hormones such as DHEA and melatonin. The most effective way to do this currently is through binaural beats, two different beat frequencies played in each ear in order to entrain a third frequency in the brain. Brainwave synchronization is not a new invention by any means. Drum circles, chanting, and prayer all can cause this effect, as well as some types of music.


So if we could artificially induce specially crafted sounds from outside, our brainwaves start to synchronize to these sounds and lower their frequencies according to the induced sounds. This is the basics of Brain Entrainment or Brainwave Synchronization.


Brainwave entrainment, which is also sometimes called brainwave synchronization, refers to the tendency of the brain to match (or entrain to) a periodically repeating stimulus, such as light or sound pulses. If this stimulus has a frequency that is within the brain’s natural frequency range, the brain will start to produce brainwaves of a similar frequency – this phenomenon is known as the ‘frequency following response’.


“Brainwave synchronization (entrainment) may be achieved when audio signals are introduced to the brain causing a response directly related to the frequency of the signal introduced, called binaural beats. Two tones close in frequency generate a beat frequency at the difference of the frequencies, which is generally subsonic. For example, a 500 Hz tone and 510 Hz tone will produce a subsonic 10 Hz tone, roughly in the middle of the alpha range.”


Nothing flaky about Brainwave synchronization except that this article should be called “brainwave entrainment” or “Frequency Following Response”, because “Brainwave synchronization” is not the official term I’ve seen in the literature. BTW, Stanford just held a big symposium on this Brainwave Entrainment.


Brain Entrainment or Brainwave Synchronization is a way of training your brain muscle. Just like we train our body with physical exercises, we could train our brains with specially created audio sounds.
